Returning Home - Task 11It had been a month since we had left for the far North. A bitter chill had torn at our sails and crept over the aching wood of our vessel. There were fifteen of us when we departed all those months before. The first three fell as soon as we reached the cold of the Artic. Winds lashed our beaten faces and the ship moaned, scraping through the glacial wasteland.     
It was bright. Thin sheets spread out around us, reflecting ghostly light. Still, we never saw movement on the ice. But there was always crying. We would hear it at night, through the darkness, when the sharp air fell to a mourning whisper and our sails slept w Returning Home - Task 11

All is Well at LastThey ask why my smiles hide in shadows.  Why do my lips never tremble into laughter?  Why is it my eyes never brighten when I look?   
It is not that I am unhappy, no.  It is not that I do not wish for joy.   
For I shall smile. One day, I shall laugh.  But first I must wait  for the day when the clouds split in distant skies and the stars dance before me.  
A time when the shadows leave me for just a moment – as I turn to face the Earth...

RobotI short circuit whenever I see you.  
(It’s probably why I think you look at me  so curiously when I’m unable to speak.)   
I’ve discovered that it’s caused by  pulses of flashing sparks  which overwhelms my circuitry.  (It makes the fuses burn red-hot before exploding.)   
I attempt to act normal (but fail)  as I desperately try to put out the electrical fires  that’s turning my mind to ashes in your presence. Robot

The Fake Sense of Freedom

Well, it appears that that's that for secondary education. My final exams are over and I am now awaiting my results in August. Even if I do not get the grades I need, I have a lot of bartering material to use in vying for my place at uni. I don't want it to come to that, but it's there.

As for what I'm doing now, I guess I'm a free man. Yet, still I fear the pressures of academia weigh down on me. Though, I feel new possibilities are open for pursuit. Namely, I believe Ornatus and I are going to get back into the groove of setting weekly creative tasks for one another. Look out for those. I guess, I have time to dedicate to some poetry, too. I might take a shimmy over my old submissions and clean up some stuff.

Outside of writing, there is music. My band are trying for more gigs through summer, and I am still trying for my one song glory. Things are looking very creative for the next few months. I only hope I can do justice to the time I have been given...maybe.

All else is as it always has been. Some bad, some good. Things hither and thither.

You have some really great poems up! I really enjoyed reading them! It's like they were heavy and intelligent, but light and easy to read at the same time! A very rare quality..

Thanks for the watch and for taking the critique well :) I went to a creative writing workshop at Stanford University a couple of years ago, and was often given the same advice I gave you about using imagery instead of blatant statements to make a point. That's why I said it ^^; Of course, if you prefer it the way it is, by all means keep it that way. It's your art, in the end,and should be made first and foremost for you.

On a side note, I find it fun that you're from the UK. It's nice to meet people from different countries. I went to the British School of Costa Rica all my life, so I spent a large portion of the last 13 years with Brits XD.

You seem to be doing ok. You've been able to submit, comment, favourite etc.
There's really very little more to it. The only other thing to do is browse and see what other madman artists you can befriend... but that's entirely up to you!
